Happily, the 2012 Walk Presentation evening on 26th June escaped the power cuts that disrupted last year’s event so the slide show of Walk facts and photographs went ahead as planned. The result was that, despite the threat of rain, it held off sufficiently for us to welcome 520 walkers (up from 470 last year) who, together with our Company Sponsors, raised an impressive total of £13,000 - £4,333 for each of our ‘good causes’ – Addenbrooke’s Dementia and Delirium Unit, Linton Health Centre and Bartlow Church Restoration Fund – by a small margin our second best result over the 9 years of the Walk. This brings the total raised to date to £80,000.
Top Fundraisers this year were Nigel and Michael, who had invited walk donations instead of gifts for their ‘Outrageous Hog Roast’, celebrating their Civil Ceremony, which netted some £2,000! A fantastic contribution! Second overall was serial fundraiser John Haine from Shudy Camps (£300). Five-year-old Grace Cannon took the Junior honours for the second consecutive year, raising £231, almost double her 2011 achievement.
2013 is the 10thAnniversary of Bartlow’s signature event and we will target to raise £20,000 to bring our 10-year total to £100,000. This will surely call for exceptional effort and an exceptional event. The 2013 Addenbrooke’s cause will be the Prostate Cancer Robot Appeal.
